PARIS — "We have reached the point of no return," said Patrick Serruys, MD, spreading his arms wide and beaming, ebullient as he entered the Palais des Congrès for the final day of Europe's largest congress for interventional radiologists.
The Editor-in-Chief of the journal EuroIntervention, and recognized as a co-developer of the drug-eluting stent (DES), Serruys has been preaching and teaching the need for a new technology and not just another generation of the metal mesh tubes to prop open collapsing coronary arteries.
