Marcello Conviti was named CEO of Carmat (Paris). Conviti most recently was senior VP of strategy and new business development at Edwards Lifesciences. Carmat is developing a total artificial heart.

John Moran was named CEO/chairman of Core Essence Orthopedics (Yardley, Pennsylvania). Moran is one of the founders of Core Essence and has been an angel investor since 1997. Core Essence Orthopedics makes products focused on soft tissue and skeletal repair of the extremities.

David McDonald was named CFO of Delcath Systems (New York). McDonald previously was senior VP of business development at AngioDynamics. Delcath is testing its proprietary treatment method for primary and metastatic cancers of the liver.

• Morgan Joseph & Co. (New York) has named Mitchell Stern as a managing director in its Healthcare Investment Banking Group, where he will cover the medical device and healthcare IT sectors. Previously, Stern was a managing director and head of healthcare & life sciences investment banking for SMH Capital. Morgan Joseph & Co. provides financial advisory and capital raising services including M&A and restructuring advice, and equity and debt private placements and public offerings.
