• Delcath Systems (New York) has named Krishna Kandarpa, MD, PhD, as its executive VP, R&D, and chief medical officer, effective Oct. 10, 2009. Previously, Kandarpa was professor and former chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Radiologist-in-Chief at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center, which he joined in 2002. Delcath Systems specializes in primary and metastatic cancers to the liver.
• First Physicians Capital Group (Beverly Hills, California) reported the election William Houlihan as a new director on the company's board, where he will be a member of the audit committee. Houlihan previously was CFO at Sixth Gear, Sedgwick Claim Management, Metris Companies and Hudson United Bancorp. First Physicians Capital Group operates healthcare services firms primarily in rural and suburban markets.
• Kelvin Baggett, MD, was named senior VP and chief medical officer of Tenet Healthcare (Dallas). Baggett joins Tenet from HCA, where he served as chief operating officer and VP, clinical strategy for the HCA Clinical Services Group. Tenet Healthcare is a health care services company whose subsidiaries and affiliates own and operate acute care hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and diagnostic imaging centers.
