• Mary Barry has joined AviaraDx (Carlsbad, California) as vice president of clinical laboratory operations. Barry most recently served as the vice president of laboratory operations for Prometheus Laboratories. AviaraDx is focused on developing molecular diagnostic technologies for personalized medicine in cancer treatment.
• Richard Cote, MD, has been named to the newly created position of chief medical officer and executive vice president of Diamics (Novato, California). Cote was the founder of Impath, served on its board of directors and was the company's chief strategic consultant. Prior to joining Diamics, he headed Clarient's scientific advisory board and was its chief strategic consultant. Cote presently holds professorships in the departments of pathology and urology at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine/Norris Cancer Center, where he also serves as director of the Genitourinary Program, chair of the Bio-medical Nanoscience Committee and director of the Laboratory of Immunology and Molecular Pathology. Diamics is developing molecular-based cancer screening and diagnostic systems that will increase long-term survival rates through early detection.
• HealthSouth (Birmingham, Alabama) appointed John Whittington, a partner of Bradley Arant Rose & White, a regional law firm based in Birmingham, as its interim general counsel and corporate secretary. Whittington has been a practicing attorney for almost 35 years, and will replace former general counsel and corporate secretary, Greg Doody, who resigned in June. HealthSouth is one of the nation's largest providers of outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging and rehabilitative healthcare services, operating facilities nationwide.
