The implantable cardioverter defibrillator is back in the news for the second time in as many weeks, thanks to the reopening of the Medicare coverage memo for these devices. The reopening follows the publication of a medical journal article describing how patients might be classified in terms of risk of sudden cardiac arrest, a risk determination method that might ding sales of these devices, but which would blunt spending on these devices by substantial sums.
