After a relatively easy advisory panel review from the FDA late last month, it should come as no surprise that Covidien (Mansfield, Massachusetts) garnered PMA approval for its Pipeline embolization device. During the presentation to the FDA, the agency was reported to have few qualms about the device, which is designed to deal with large and giant embolisms of the internal carotid artery (Medical Device Daily, March 22, 2011).
