SAN DIEGO — The annual scientific sessions of the American College of Cardiology (ACC; Washington) are underway, and the big news on day one is that CT angiography offers little advantage over function testing for coronary artery disease where prediction of death and major cardiac events are concerned. The data might at first give insurers little incentive to cover CT angiography for those with suspected coronary artery disease, but an economic analysis of the data suggest a roughly equivalent cost metric over three years, leaving payers with a quandary on their hands.
