• Rebecca Rimel, president/CEO of The Pew Charitable Trusts, has joined the board of CardioNet (Conshohocken, Pennsylvania) and will serve on its compensation committee. CardioNet's efforts are focused on the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac arrhythmias, or heart rhythm disorders.
• William Himmelsbach was named president/CEO of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF; New York). Previously, Himmelsbach was senior VP at VHA and executive officer of its New York-based VHA Empire-Metro. CRF is an independent, academically focused nonprofit organization dedicated to developing innovative therapies for the millions of people around the world suffering from heart disease.
• Robert Superko, MD, was named VP and chief of medical affairs at Celera (Alameda, California). Superko is currently the executive director at the Center for Genomics and Human Health at St. Joseph's Translational Research Institute in Atlanta. Dr. Superko sits on the editorial boards of several journals including the Journal of Cardiovascular Risk and Preventative Cardiology. Celera specializes in personalized disease management.
• William Link, PhD, was elected to the board of Edwards Lifesciences (Irvine, California). Link is managing director and a co-founder of Versant Ventures. Edwards Lifesciences makes heart valves and hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
• MedCath (Charlotte, North Carolina)) reported that David Covert will join its senior management team as senior VP, operations and will have operations responsibilities for MedCath hospitals located in Arizona, California, New Mexico as well as TexSan Heart Hospital (San Antonio, Texas). Covert most recently was president/CEO of Catholic Healthcare West's East Valley Service Area and Chandler Regional Medical Center. MedCath is a healthcare provider focused on high-acuity services, with the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease being a primary service offering.
• St. Jude Medical (St. Paul, Minnesota) reported that John Brown and Daniel Starks were re-elected to the company's board for three-year terms.
