Drug sponsors should not focus on influencing legislators about how to price rare-disease and orphan therapies, Ovid Therapeutics Inc. CEO Jeremy Levin said during a panel talk at Biotech Showcase. “The game is not in Washington,” he said. “The game is on the ground in each state, where you need to convince the public, the individuals, the patients that, in fact, you are bringing value.”
Nearly two years after confronting an initial complete response letter, Enzyvant Therapeutics Inc. has won FDA approval for a unique treatment for children born without a thymus, an ultra-rare condition leaving them deeply disadvantaged in fighting infections. The product, to be marketed as Rethymic, is the first thymus tissue product approved in the U.S.
Japan's Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co. Ltd. plans to pay $3 billion to acquire Roivant Sciences Ltd.'s ownership interests in five biopharma companies, plus options to acquire up to six more from the prolific company-builder. The deal, slated to close in October, would give Sumitomo Dainippon controlling interests in Myovant Sciences Inc., Urovant Sciences Inc., Enzyvant Therapeutics Inc. and Altavant Sciences Inc., as well as an equity stake of more than 10% in Roivant itself.
