Medtronic plc reported results from a registry highlighting the effectiveness of the Prevail paclitaxel-coated balloon. The findings from the Swedish Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty Registry (SCAAR) were presented by Sacharias von Koch of the department of cardiology and clinical sciences at Lund University, Skåne University Hospital in Sweden at the Cardiovascular Research Technologies 2025 meeting in Washington.
Surmodics Inc. reported positive two-year data from the SWING trial, the first-in-human study to look at the safety of its Sundance Sirolimus drug-coated balloon (DCB) when used to treat occlusive disease of the infrapopliteal arteries. Results presented at the VEITHsymposium in New York showed that the Sundance Sirolimus DCB demonstrated an excellent safety profile and achieved primary patency of 71.4% at 24 months in the per protocol analysis population.
Medalliance SA reported completion of patient enrollment in the SAVE clinical trial with its Selution SLR 018 drug-eluting balloon. Eighty-four subjects have been recruited for this prospective multi-center, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial. These patients received either standard high-pressure balloon angioplasty followed by local application of Selution SLR, or else high-pressure balloon angioplasty with no further lesion treatment.
Genesis Medtech Group received marketing approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration for its laparoscopic surgical device called Artisential, which helps surgeons in precision surgery. The approval not only adds another market in which the device is available but will allow Genesis to expand its reach in China.
Surmodics Inc. is poised to jump on the market for below the knee thrombectomy now that its Pounce platform with a low-profile (LP) model has FDA 510(k) clearance. The system can now effectively clear organized clots from vessels as small as 2 mm in diameter. The Pounce LP expands the Eden Prairie, Minn.-based company’s “grab-go-flow” platform. In its first iteration, Pounce enabled removal of thrombi and emboli in peripheral arteries 3.5 mm to 6 mm in diameter.
